A ‘self taught’ artist I have been painting professionally now for twenty years. I gained degrees in biology and chemistry and trained as a biochemist but always had a love and aptitude for drawing. When my children were young I started watercolour painting classes with professional tutors both locally in Carmarthenshire and also further afield in Pembrokeshire and England. I also gained alot of knowledge and still do from excellent learn to paint books and videos that are now readily available. Of course the only way to progress is to paint as often as possible and not be afraid to experiment and ‘make a mess’! which I did and continue to do. Recently I have started working in oils as well as watercolour. It remains challenging but very enjoyable.
I have participated in the running of two galleries. The Bridge Gallery in Llandeilo I established and ran successfully for twelve years and more recently I took the opportunity to help Anthony Richards expand his already established studio and gallery in Ammanford.
I am now doing less on the retail side and concentrating on developing my own work and also continuing to tutor leisure painting courses which I love doing and find very rewarding.
I now have more time to paint and to pursue my other hobbies which include photography, birding, walking and a recent interest, beekeeping!
The inspiration for my work has always come from the beautiful and diverse landscapes of Wales, especially The Towy Valley where I have my home.
