RSPB Dinas Reserve at Rhandirmwyn
A lovely Good Friday afternoon at Dinas and there were lots of birds but they were quite high and difficult to see amongst the branches and twigs. Even more difficult to photograph. I went especially to see the pied flycatcher and wasn’t disappointed. There were several males and I saw one female- a brown version of the male.
Species count: Redstart, thrush, blue tit, great tit, cuckoo (heard), pied flycatcher, nuthatch, chaffinch, willow warbler
Enjoying Gelli Aur country park with the Thursday class
We spent an hour or so with sketch book and pencil finding a nice composition to include a path through the trees. The idea was then to go indoors and paint a watercolour sketch from the reference material collected . The morning was glorious- birds singing , sun shining and bluebells flowering . Everyone enjoyed.
Classes week beginning April 18th
Continuing with watercolour and hope the good weather continues so we can spend some time outside.
A Sunday saunter around Usk and surrounds
Bird song at its best today- blackcaps and willow warblers taking the top spot. We had a lovely view of a dipper collecting flies for a brood nesting under a small bridge over a reservoir tributary. Thrilled to see a small flock of crossbills and get a photo. Had a close encounter with a sparrow hawk on the hunt.
Species: willow warbler, crossbill, blackcap, sparrowhawk, raven, blue tit, great tit, dipper, chaffinch, blackbird, thrush, stonechat, red kite, buzzard, longtailed tit.
